Where's Kerrie?

Here I am at the library to update ya'll.  I've been working on some assignments for regional parenting magazines, which I love. But of course then I'm also torn about that work of mothering and gearing up for homeschooling to start with THREE kids this year! I always vow to be more organized and then I fail and then they end up still being pretty smart by the end of the school year anyway ... somehow, some way. My scrapbooking projects are still staring me in the face, but I feel like I'm being called more to work on Sam's birth story about meconium aspiration for someplace like Mothering or some other nice, crunchy magazine. I have lots of essays in me, but keep getting these incredibly cute and sweet interruptions like hugs and hair-brushings and requests for blump-blump (chocolate milk; Eva) and questions about when we're heading to the pool and so on. I love the wife and mom gig!

How are you all doing?  Leave me a comment so I know you're still out there!

Fast Food Trash

When I was at McDonald’s the other day I saw how full the 2 trashed in the play area were by 1 p.m. and wondered just how much trash each McDonald’s puts into a landfill.

I took home my own plastic salad container, my frappe cup, our soda cup, our chicken McNugget cardboard boxes and our Happy Meal boxes to recycle. What if everyone did that?

Orrrrrr …

What if McDonald’s instituted a recycling program? Most of us are too stoopid to use the bins correctly (plastic, cardboard and other trash), but I guess someone could be paid to sort it at the end of the day. Or … forget that … just have someone sort it each time before they take it to the dumpster.

I’m just throwing out unformed ideas here. How do you think I should go about making this happen? Maybe call my local news station to film me sorting through the trash myself to take the recycling to my local recycling center?

Maybe I’d better clear that with Doug (the manager at McDonald’s) first. Yep, I know the manager’s name. I’m there enough getting a coffee or Coke fix that the McDonald’s staff is like family. It’s a little strange, but I’m cool with that.
