Hey, people. Here are some funny things I have been known to say:
Who can say "no" to a helpless pickle?
When I pray, I like to say, "Thank you for Mommy, Daddy, Joel, Michael, Callie, Sam and me, my name is Eva."
I don't care what my siblings say. I came up with the idea to name Samuel "Samwich" when he was in Mommy's belly.

This was taken probably around 1994 and I think it's around the time I learned I would get to travel to Hawaii with my parents since I had shed my crappy, abusive husband. |

1994 later ... with my lovely cousins ... why don't we get this picture taken annually anymore? |

1988?? I know you are jealous of my crimp job and the curled/teased/sprayed bangs. |

1995 maybe? More mandatory cousin shots. |

Runs/Walks in Kansas City: Saints Stampede August 15, 2015 #StThomasAquinas
Before I was the homeschooling writer mom of 5, I used to love to walk all the time as a stress reliever and to stay in shape. Walking is something you can do as a parent anytime, but now that my youngest is 5 and my oldest is 14, it's a lot easier for me to fit in time for my own fitness. Over the winter I walked some at the gym on the treadmill and track. Now I can walk the neighborhood or the field at the school by my house. I'm not a jogger or a runner yet ... but might be someday! For now I walk in my OOFOS sandals because they are the most comfy thing I have ever worn and work perfectly for summertime.
What: St. Thomas Aquinas Saints Stampede
When: Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 7:30 a.m.
Where: St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park, KS
Proceeds from the Saints Stampede will benefit the Guardian Angel Fun at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School. The Guardian Angel Fund provides tuition assistance to families in need during time of crisis, such as loss of job, divorce or death of a parent.
P.S. I get my info from the fabulous KC Running Company website.
On a personal note, here's my walking story for National Walking Day a couple of years ago with an update.
When you're all done, you'll be hungry! Grab a copy of my Tater Tot Casserole Cookbook and whip up a batch of happiness for dinner!

#BigFamilyCamping ... Our Maiden Voyage #Melvern #Kansas
Back at the end of May 2015, when we knew my husband was going to be traveling for the entire month of June, we decided to do a family camping trip. The weather in Kansas is always such a crapshoot, so we set out and got a wide range of weather situations, from playing-in-the-lake warm-enough to freezing in our rain gear and later traipsing through mud. We headed to Melvern Lake in Lebo, Kansas for what turned out to be the first of many awesome camping trips.

This swing was right on our campsite! Came in handy later for hanging up wet blankets! |

Isn't it gorgeous? Yep, we even took the dog with us and he loved it! |

The first night was perfect for swimming but a little chilly for me |

Callie had to also hold the baby dog |

And Joel. We are suckers for little pets. |

That night the weather turned freaky and we got a ton of rain. |

The next morning I give the thumbs up in my rain gear in the cold. |

We had some lunch |

We took a "little" hike with Daddy saying, "it isn't much longer" when we hiked like ... forever in the mud! |

But the hike started with this cool old house in the Flint Hills! |

Sam's little friend, Driftwood |

Daddy made them mermaid and merman |

We broke out the glow kit later ... swords, rings, necklaces, bracelets, glasses! |

Runs/Walks in Kansas City: The Culture House Red Carpet Run August 15, 2015
Before I was the homeschooling writer mom of 5, I used to love to walk all the time as a stress reliever and to stay in shape. Walking is something you can do as a parent anytime, but now that my youngest is 5 and my oldest is 14, it's a lot easier for me to fit in time for my own fitness. Over the winter I walked some at the gym on the treadmill and track. Now I can walk the neighborhood or the field at the school by my house. I'm not a jogger or a runner yet ... special equipment needed for my upper lady parts ... but might be someday! For now I walk in my OOFOS sandals because they are the most comfy thing I have ever worn and work perfectly for summertime.
Because I love walking so much, I'll be posting upcoming walk/runs in Kansas City as I find them. This does not mean I'll be participating in all of them, so don't show up expecting me to sign autographs or anything. I MIGHT or MIGHT NOT be there, depending on household funds at the time, Mr. Kerrie's travel situation, my sanity level, etc. Enjoy the race info, and go out and find some in your town!
What: The Culture House Red Carpet Run
When: Saturday, August 15, 2015 at 7:30 a.m.
Where: Lone Elm Park, Olathe, Kansas
ALL proceeds from the Red Carpet 5K Run/Walk go to theStar Program at The Culture House. The STAR Program educates challenged, at-risk youth in the arts, life skills, character, spiritual development and civics. In many cases, children and youth who are coming from severely broken situations experience consistent failure in school and want for positive opportunities to develop their gifts and talents. This has a devastating effect on their self-confidence, and ability to learn and succeed. The STAR Program engages these students in theatre, art, music and dance classes to engage their imagination and potential artistic gifts, plus taking them through the learning process. Students rebuild their sense of hope and discovering their personal interests and calling.
Fun facts: my uncle used to coach track at a high school in Lee's Summit for many years and my dad has taken up jogging ... it's in my blood!
